Microsoft’s Cortana? It looks a lot like the revisited, digital version of Jiminy Cricket
To be sure, the trending tool section of our weekly wrap is by far the most fascinating this week, given that meaningful news related to Google remains thin on the ground while the closing of the earnings season in tech-land has left many wondering what could be next later this year.

Microsoft’s Cortana was under the spotlight in recent days — to me, it looks a lot like the revisited, digital version of Jiminy Cricket, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

“Cortana is your personal assistant, always there to remember things, so you don’t have to. Today, we’re introducing another, even smarter way for Cortana to help make sure nothing slips through the cracks with suggested reminders.”
Nothing.
Does it get any better elsewhere?
Of course, WhatsApp’s two-step verification feature confirms Facebook is serious about privacy-related issues, but also worth a mention is PayPal’s Slack bot, which didn’t pass unnoticed.
